Areal Flood Warning

... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 900 am CDT for small
streams in Barry... Lawrence... McDonald and Newton counties...

At 249 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar and area
hydrographs indicated that rainfall from the past 24 hours was
producing flooding across the warned area. Several low water
crossings remain flooded across the warned area.

Runoff from this rain is causing flooding. Locations in the warning
include... Anderson... Aurora... big Sugar Creek State Park...
Cassville... Diamond... Exeter... Fairview... Goodman... Granby...
Joplin... Lanagan... Leawood... Marionville... Miller... Monett... Mount
Vernon... Neosho... Noel... Pierce City... Pineville... Purdy... Roaring
River State Park... Saginaw... Seligman... Seneca... Shoal creek drive...
Silver Creek... South West City... Verona... Washburn and Wheaton.
Creeks... streams and low water crossings will be especially
susceptible to the dangers of flooding.

This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water
crossings...

Highway 43 at Buffalo Creek west of Anderson...
business Highway 60 just north of Neosho...
Highway 97 at the Spring River north of Stotts City...
Route y at Flat Creek just northeast of Cassville...
Route c just south of McDowell.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to escape
flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water
begins rising.

... For the Elk River near Tiff City...
* at 1:30 am Saturday the stage was 11.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will rise above flood stage by late this
morning and continue to rise to near 16.4 feet by this evening. The
river will fall below flood stage by around midnight.
* Impact... at 15.0 feet... minor flooding occurs at the gage site. The
cowskin river floating public access area on the west side of
Highway 43 floods. The access Road to the RV park at herman's
campground two miles upstream from the bridge floods.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday
afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* the Missouri Ozarks and portions of far southeastern Kansas.

* Through Saturday afternoon

* showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will impact much
of the Missouri Ozarks tonight before ending Saturday morning.
The heaviest rain overnight will occur east of Highway 65 across
south central Missouri where an additional one to two inches of
rain may fall. This rain falling on saturated soil... will
result in an increased risk for flash flooding.

* Small streams... creeks... low water crossings and area rivers
will be especially susceptible to flash flooding.

Those floating or camping on or near area rivers should be alert
for rapid rises of water levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
