* at 1:01 PM Saturday the stage was 11.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 23.0 feet by tomorrow early afternoon.
The river will fall below flood stage by Monday early afternoon.
* Impact... at 22.7 feet... approximate level of the one percent chance
flood.

Newton County in southwestern Missouri...
Lawrence County in southwestern Missouri...

* until 1215 am CDT Sunday

* at 1201 PM CDT, the Department of Transportation reported flash
flooding across the warned area. Up to nine inches of rain has
already fallen. Life threatening flash flooding is already
occurring.

* Creeks, streams, and low water crossings will be especially
susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded

eastern Newton County in southwestern Missouri...

* until 330 PM CDT

* at 934 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
warned area. Up to 8 inches of rain has fallen. Unusual and
dangerous flash flooding is already occurring.

This is a flash flood emergency for eastern Newton County including
the cities of Granby, Ritchey, and Newtonia. Life threatening flash
flooding is ongoing across portions of Newton County. This is a
particularly dangerous situation. Seek higher ground now!

* Creeks, streams, and low water crossings will be especially
susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding.

Ritchey...

This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water
crossings...
Route W at Shoal Creek near Ritchey.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* the Missouri Ozarks and far southeastern Kansas.

* Through Sunday evening

* periods of showers and thunderstorms producing torrential
rainfall will occur today through Sunday. Widespread event
rainfall amounts from 3 to 6 inches are expected, with localized
amounts up to 8 inches possible. The highest rainfall amounts
will occur across far southern Missouri with lighter amounts
toward central Missouri. Intense rainfall rates will quickly
lead to flash flooding.

* With soils already saturated as well as streams and rivers
running high, the potential for significant flooding is becoming
more likely. Flooding of streams, rivers, and low water
crossings could last for several days after the rain ends. Areas
that don't normally flood could flood in this event.

Some main Stem rivers that will experience significant rises and
potential flooding include the Elk, Spring, James, Big Piney,
Gasconade, Jacks Fork, current, eleven point, Osage, and Marmaton.
Some river points may reach moderate or major flood stage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
