The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Dent County in south central Missouri...
Shannon County in south central Missouri...

* until 400 PM CDT Wednesday.

* At 949 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated an
area of very heavy rainfall across the warned area. Particularly
areas of southeast Dent have experienced 3 inches of rain this
morning.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Locations in the warning include... Birch Tree... Bunker...
Current River State Park... Eminence... Montauk State Park... Salem
and Winona. Creeks... streams and low water crossings will be
especially susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding.

This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water
crossings...

Route kk at gladden creek just north of Akers...
Route h... 3 miles east of Winona...
Route h at Rocky Creek 6 miles northeast of Winona.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It only takes a few inches of
swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Missouri... south central Missouri and
southwest Missouri... including the following areas... in
central Missouri... Benton... Camden... Hickory... Maries...
Miller... Morgan... Phelps... Pulaski and St. Clair. In south
central Missouri... Dent... Howell... Oregon... Shannon and
Texas. In southwest Missouri... Dallas... Douglas... Laclede...
Polk... Webster and Wright.

* Through Thursday morning

* periods of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to move
through central Missouri from early this morning through
early Thursday morning. Rainfall amounts of two to four
inches are expected... with locally higher amounts over five
inches possible. The threat for flash flooding will
increase... especially over locations that experience
multiple rounds of thunderstorms.

* Remember to never drive through water covered roadways.
Additionally... be especially cautious at night as flooding
dangers are much more difficult to identify.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
